Fueling Love's Fire

by John   Jun 25, 2004

How is it that one complains
of the work involved for love's gain?
The most precious thing, a gift in life
To find one so special to make your wife

Love is not a rope or tether
though a binding force holding two together
It is energy felt between those two
And like a fire, it needs fuel.

As a fire, love keeps us warm
Drying us off after a storm
A light to turn to on dark days
The darkness living throws our way

Love's fire neglected will turn to ashes
The weakened bond allowing clashes.
So what is needed to keep love glowing?
What nourishes those seeds and keeps them growing?

It's nothing more than mutual respect
Showing the other you will never neglect
The preciousness their existence brings
To your life, and how much they mean.

Loving arms, a kind word or two
Expressing feelings, kissing too.
If both commit they won't be burned
And love expressed will be love returned.

Suzanne, I'm glad our hearts are open
With you my feelings are so easily spoken
Feelings of neglect, you will never know
As our path stays lit by our love's glow.
