The American Dream

by Marino Vilano   Jan 18, 2012

Boys and girls grow up with dreams,
Some want to be doctors, cops, and queens.
Others want to be athletes, and rockstars,
They want all the money, and fancy cars.

Then there are the other few,
The ones who want to do things that nobody wants to do.
The ones who grew up watching GI Joe,
Always hoping they can one day save the world.

I grew up being a jock,
Had many friends and a really good job.
I was a class clown who loved to party,
Nobody ever took this one high school boy seriously.

When i was a kid i wanted to be a soldier,
Always running around and shouting orders.
Shooting coke cans with my water gun,
Oh how i was the wild one.

I became a U.S Marine,
Not just any Marine, a mean, lean, killing machine.
I took an oath to fight for the land of the free,
Even if it means not coming home to my family.

I had choices, i had dreams.
At times i know i could have been someone else,
But i am living my dream,
Its The American Dream.

I lost many friends back at home,
But i am part of a brotherhood,
We come from all over this nation,
Different race, backgrounds and religion.

We are The few, we are the proud,
We keep America safe, and we wont let you down.
We will stay in the fight, day and night.
We wont back off until all is right.

We live and die,
For every right.
Its not a game,
Its not for fame.

We all made a choice, we all had a dream.
We made that dream a reality,
Its the story of our life, the story that we live for,
Its The American Dream.

You don't know me, I don't know you,
You don't owe me anything for what I do.
I simply do it from the heart,
And I will finish what I start.

I won't be in the media or CNN,
For my actions or my death.
But I tell you this once again,
I lived my dream as an American.

Where the stars and stripes wave around,
Where the Eagle flies, and hopes are found.
This is what I cherish inside,
My honor, love, and my pride.

"God bless to all who read this. Please keep in mind the soldiers and grunts and airmen and sailors who are out there fighting for this land. You dont know our names, nor you will ever know them. But please keep in mind that we do this for yall. America will survive, God Bless. and Rest in peace to my brothers and sister who have gone before me, i will soon be with yall. God bless to all!
Thank you"
