Secrets

by Megan Kaye   Jun 27, 2004

Memories flash across my mind, words spoken so clearly remembered.
Battles overcame and victories celebrated,
all with you right by my side.
You sat besides me the first day I met you,
when you saw that I was all alone.
You showed me what friendship really was,
eating glue for me when I dared you to.
You held my hand many times the first yers,
when the older kids tormented me.
Always ready to be my hero,
my knight riding in on a white horse.
You eventually let me go,
knowing full well I could accomplish things on my own.
You dealt with my anger and rejoiced in my joy,
willing to be there for me no matter the cost.
It's finally our last year in school together,
the one we've waited so long for.
It doesnt' seem to make me as happy now,
leaving you is not something I intended to do.
I've been thinking a lot about you these past weeks,
trying to stop the tears from falling.
I know wherever you end up next year,
if you need me I'll come as quick as I can.
You've taught me so many things through our lives:
friendship, independence, courage, and love.
Somewhere through the thirteen years I fell in love.
Inside I think I always knew,
you were the one that I wanted to be with.
Only realizing it now when it's time to say goodbye.
I hope you'll realize one day what you mean to me.
You'll forever be my friend, my companion, my soul mate.
I'll carry the memories forever until I'm washed out to sea.
