Everything to lose

I have looked for reason
but it must
have been hidden,
along with that
"top secret" plan,
to end this war
with honor.
because I found none.

I have heard the songs
of the war-lords
in the darkness,
laughing
and plotting
on great wall maps
in situation rooms
far from battle grounds
and the killing fields,

While I stand
in death's doorway
with nothing
to gain
and everything
to lose.
