White Dress Runaway

by Daniel Mulvany   Jul 28, 2012

I set the stage,
He stole the show.
The moving picture in my head.
The one that features you and I,
Where our dearest friends and family converge,
Each dressed in their Sunday best,
Gathered together to bear witness,
As she sheds the veil, her hand in mine,
"Now you may kiss the bride."
Though the anticipation weighs the same,
For her day so soon to come,
It is not my lips which will meet hers.

I offered everything I had,
Yet still he took my place.
I'll carry on what is left behind;
A heart with failing faith,
Torn between the letting go,
And clinging to misguided hope.
Hope that dissolves with the thought...

Her ring,
His word,
Our chance...

A star is far, too far to reach,
But only when the effort proves it so.
I'll lay my head beneath these stars,
The ones we may never come to know,
And waste away these last nights praying...

Praying for a white dress runaway.
