Life of a Soldier

by Irma Benavides   Jul 30, 2012

I live my life day by day,
Not knowing if I will die only God can say.
I have no choice but to stand tall and strong,
As long as I fight for the right and not the wrong,

I live in the land of the free,
So don't be blind open your eyes and see,
What we soldiers do for you so you can live the way you want,

I hate that it's so hard to be away from the people we love,
But yet my faith is still with the man above,

I wake up with my head up high,
Hoping that my days will just pass by,
Not hoping on how long this deployment will be,
But hoping my neice will remember me,

I pray that my family stays strong,
And that when I get home the days could feel so long,
I stand up high with my head held up,
Living my life without a doubt,

Of all the choices I've made in the past,
Praying to God this war won't last,
Just so we all can go home to the people, who mean so much,
Because sometimes we wish we can just have one touch,
Of the person waiting back in the rear,

Living life with pride and not with fear,
I fight so you all can live happy with a lot of choices,
And not be shut down from your voices,
You get to live and even vote,

To choose the leader for the land we fight on foot, planes, and even a boat,
So show your respects for the ones who don't know if they would live another day,

And keep us in your minds and start to pray,
Guaranteed God would listen any way,
I know he has it destine for us to go or stay,
But you never know he might just change his mind and let me lay next to my girl,

And let me live the rest of my life.
It hurts seeing my mother break down into tears
It hurts to leave my family alone,
So I can be the United States back bone,
We all can't wait to go home and get of that airplane,

And see our family and leave the pain,
Feeling complete from my heart once more,
With my family knowing I served an honored corp,
So I am a soldier telling you to remember and never forget,
The people who fight with no regret.

*Dedicated to all my brothers and sisters who are still out there fighting. Get back home safe. Hooah!
