A Soldiers Dream

by Samuel Ernst   Nov 7, 2012

We lay upon cots and upon weary minds we dream,
We are all conformed, so it would seem,
Laying still in the blackness of the tent,
Some chatting about how the day was spent,
But as we wonder off to sleep,
Our minds grab shovels and dig deep,
We dream about beer or a loved one,
All the things back home that sound like fun,
We are soldiers conformed to a standard way,
But our dreams, so diverse, keep us moving day to day.

I really like this poem. It shows how what you dream makes you want to keep going everyday instead of giving up. This poem really helps someone understand how hard it is to keep going when you are so far away from home. yet, never giving up.
