At Your Expense

by Singmehome   May 29, 2013

What is a voice worth
If no one is listening
If you can see my lips moving
But you can't read them
In the uproar of the crowd
The silence is deafening

My skin feels heavy
As your words push against it
Entering me pore by pore
Slashing wounds into my soul
Over time the scars will fade
Your kisses will no longer stain my neck
But in the nights to come the weight of your words
Will leave me breathless

Gasping
Drowning in a sea of denial
Behind close doors
In the dead of night
Two heartbeats beat as one
A race against the clock
To learn every dip and every turn
Before the flat line comes

When the morning arrives
This will all have been a miscommunication
Lost in translation our tongues have forgotten that time
Is non refundable
But if I could spend a lifetime by your side
I would be a broke soul
Incapable of affording
The reality of what we are.
