Two young hearts ignited in the heat of that summer day
Not caring about consequence as inhibitions fade
As they dance the breeze passes by without a care
The sun drifts away and passion fills the air
Their days were filled with laughter; I love you they would say
Which fueled the burning fire, they hoped would never go away
Everything was perfect with no obstacles it seemed
As they lay in bed at night they filled each others dreams
Along came September like a rainstorm in the night
That poured upon the fire and dwindled out the light
He said he wasnt sure about this anymore
As she sat their crying, telling him he swore
He walked away so quickly yet was not quite sure why
And she moved on slowly as time went by and by
Now the lines have fallen silent, and hes not sure what to do
The memories invade his thoughts as he paces around the room
And as the summer heat begins to resonate again
He calls her one more time to tell her how hes been
Tells her how he loves her and his voice begins to shake
When she tells him that shes sorry, but his timing is too late
She found someone else to dance with in her dreams
Someone who held her hand as she healed her broken wings
He puts the phone down slowly and wipes away his cheek
Takes a few steps back and tries to find his feet
He lies down on the bed and tries to fall asleep
Yet cannot rest his mind even though he feels so weak
How could I leave her, over and over he asks why?
He has to get her back, and wonders how to try
Two young hearts ignited in the heat of that summer day
And now the fires gone for good and he is left to blame
He fights and fights to find her light, like a flower on the seal
And his heart slowly withers, when he finds he never will
