Koda

by Nicole Latham   Feb 18, 2014

This is the story of a girl..whose life was saved by a dog.

My life felt so empty
Like every ounce
Of my soul had up and left me
I wanted nothing more
Then to curl up and die
I couldn't even tell you
The reason why

I went on the search
I needed a friend
But I couldn't find
A connection with people
Just a dead end

Day after day
Ad after ad
My walls were caving in
I only felt sad

There was a hole in my heart
That was tearing my life apart
I needed something true..
And then I found you.

You were scared
Smelled bad
And covered in fleas
None of that made a difference
You put my heart at ease

I got you home
Cleaned you up
And decided what to call you

I sat down on the floor
Just to watch and adore
Until you stole my bottle of soda
I couldn't help but laugh
And say out loud
I think I'll call you Koda

Days turned to months
And our bond grew strong
I'm glad I finally found you
I had searched for so long

But just my luck
Tragedy struck
And ripped the heart
Right out of my chest
You had been shot
And it was time to
Lay your body to rest

My world fell
My heart gone
Nothing could fill that bond
Of the only friend I've had all along

People say you'll be fine
"It was only a dog"
And the only thing I could say...

She made a weak girl strong
She was the smile on my face
She was the beat in my chest
She was always there for me
That's more then what I could say for the rest
She kept me warm at night
She knew how to hug me tight
And when I was feeling blue
She always knew just what to do

So before you open your mouth
And say I can buy something new
Just remember our bond
And how you don't know her like I do

--that girl...she was my best friend..

RIP Koda. You will always fill that empty space in my heart.
