The Reason I Can't Let Go

by Dustin Cole   Oct 5, 2014

Ever so solace and calm I exude
But the truth I never convey to you
Its been years now since I last saw that face
Day in and out I continue to wait
For an opportunity to finally let known
To the world why I can't let go

It started with the untimely hands of ill
As cancer stole my grandmother's will
"I know your not one for material things
So to you I leave my wedding rings
Just promise me this after I'm gone
That my last request you will carry on
Keep this close until the very day
You choose to never runaway
The moment in which you find
A girl that comes once in a lifetime
The one you want to the very end
Love never snuffed out by the devil's wind
Then when you know it to be true
Ask for her hand with this ring I leave you"

That ring was cherished for so long
No one was ever worthy to try it on
Though all stable things do stand tall
There comes a day when it must fall
Like this notion did when I met you
I promised that I will forever love you
I had finally felt in my heart it had truly come
The last request she gave to me was finally done
Even more so the moment you agreed
To one day stand at that alter beside me

Now I feel you can know the reason
That I can't let go of your treason
When one worked so hard for only one thing
The rest of existence seems dull to the
You may feel that love is no longer there
But that ring was only for you to bare
So for the rest of this life I shall wait it out
For the return of the woman I can't live without
