One Tear

by heather   Jul 6, 2004

I sneak away from the world
the people who don't really care
this time I'll do it for real
this time it's no silly dare
the silver blade glistens
in streaming sunlight
nothing I have ever done
has felt so incredibly right
I raise the blade to my throat
my hand beginning to shake
it's too late to turn back now
there's too much for me to take
the blade sinks into my flesh
and fire rips through my throat
soon there is a sweet nothing,
suicide with no note
when you come into the room
and see me lying dead
you're too afraid to move
there are too many thoughts in your head
when you finally scream
the people crowd around
still there is nothing
no movement, no sound
everyone is silent,
nobody knows what to say
what could have saved her
from losing life this way
why did she do it?
You lean down to see
images come flooding back
memories of you and me
you take a step closer
and it all becomes clear
what is that you see on my cheek?
One solitary tear
