Perfectly imperfect in love

by sean mclaughlin   Jul 1, 2015

I stole her heart one starry night,
right from her aching chest
and through the tears i tried to give her love
for she deserved the very best.

A new element, a rare treasure I held in my hands
Which i promised to protect
my princess I had now
who i would always respect.

But through the fairy tale approached a turbulent ride,
An unpredictable situation I didn't foresee
I broke my princess's trust
and now she doesnt feel the same way about me.

I looked upon the damage i had caused
through the storm, i was blind
reiterating my own feelings and desires,
because the love was perfect in my mind.

I know at this point words mean little,
and the pain i caused isn't going away
we agreed to go our separate paths,
but oh i wish nothing more than for you to stay.

Now i sit here bleeding from my soul through this pen,
saying goodbye,
hopefully not forever
but with a heart that will always cry.

My heart grows silent,
not a single beat anymore,
dreaming, wishing i could change it all
and not hate myself to the very core.
