The First Time I Said I Love You

by The Modern Day Renaissance Man   Sep 4, 2015

Standing on the ledge I see your face
I long for your embrace though I still hesitate
Fear overwhelms me will it be a mistake
Only moments to choose for a lifetime of change
Every conversation we've had comes back to me
Every moment shared can now be seen
My hands tremble
My knees grow weak
My stomach twists into knots
As the sweat on my brow gleams
This feeling is terrifying yet amazing
It's so many unexplainable things
A cold breeze sends a chill down my spine
As if to say "you're running out of time"
I take my final step
With no footing left it's time for the rapid decent
I Love You The only words that I said
My heart sinks to my toes
No longer am I on a ledge but now fully exposed
I crash through the waves but swept up in the tow
Emerging into darkness breathless and cold
Scared and alone I panic but I've nowhere to go
I thrash through the water but the surface stays calm
You lie your head on my chest
My heart beats like a song
Your cheeks like cherry blossoms as you hum along
Your hands caress my back
As you reply in a whisper so soft
"I have loved you all along"
