Reminisce

by druekee   Nov 23, 2015

Those days were spent swimming in pools of boiling water
Licking your fidgeting fingertips kissed in cyanide
I remember feeling happy
Somehow
Despite the withering gazes I sent over my shoulder
And how you simply laughed at that,
Amused with the strain in my voice.
I remember that time we walked to get coffee
You were cold, and you sent me this look like it was my fault
And I told you I would buy you a blanket,
A fur coat,
A hotter sun!
And you smiled at me with empty eyes
Warm fingers curling around my own
With a sweetness unfit for our relationship
As you whispered to me that, maybe,
I was just trying too hard.
