Last Chapter of Challenged Love

by Trisha Gustafson   Jan 10, 2016

Before we close the book
We need to take another look.
For there is more to us
Than a cover for a book.

Each page tells our story
Of love passion and caring
Of understanding and sharing.
Not a fantasy but a reality.

Words in italics tell of softness
Tolerance closeness kindness.
Touching caressing blindness
Hoping promising endless.

But the words in bold type
Tell of conflicts and confusion.
The preconceived illusions
Of judgement without truth.

Footnotes are ours alone
As they are the references
To confirm our differences.
We accept, others reject.

Now for the expected ending.
Neither one of us will write the lines
As we have tried too many times.
So write your own as we could not.
