Locked Away

by stacy hall   Feb 21, 2016

As I lay here on this cold steel, my heart longs for you.To rest my head upon your chest and to feel safe in your arms. Oh what I would do. Just to lay at your side for one night. To be held tight and to feel your lips as you reach over and kiss my head and say "Everything going to be alright".
All these thoughts brings me many emotions, happy and sad too. But I know in the end I will belong to you. So as I lay here and count the days, I know soon I will be home to you.
All I can say is "I love you and my heart belongs to you".

    Hello Stacy,

welcome to PnQs. It is always nice to see new poets joining and sharing their work.

I like the paragraph free form format. Within this is a sad resigned point of view. The description of laying on 'cold hard steel' sets the tone from the off. To me it makes me think of a morgue table and so a cadaver making this speech. This is powerful as it is written in the first tense and the relationship with the reader is instantly fraught. I like this as it grabs the attention like nothing else; no preamble, just death. The main body is also sad, but in a way sweet too. The dialogue I think is to a loved one, wanting their reassurance at this daunting time. The time between death and the after life.
The ending is a perfect statement, total devotional love.

Well done Stacy a well written piece that gripped me from the start. I especially like the unique placement of the possible thoughts and feelings one would have after their death.

    Keep writing...

    Take care,

    Michael
