Calamari love

by J Young   Apr 2, 2016

I was sweaty, not calm,
(I copied your test.)
Then I asked you to prom,
And you said yes.

You wore a white dress,
Which I spilled wine on.
You fell back in distress,
And tore a nylon.

"I am so sorry!"
I blurted mid-chew,
Then I knocked calamari
Off the table on you.

You screamed like a banshee,
Then the mood blackened.
Thinking "Why can't she
Forget that this happened?"

You got to your feet,
Pulled squid from your hair.
I felt my heart beat,
When you looked at me square.

People were staring.
How can I explain?
The dress you were wearing,
Had a giant red stain.

I put down my highball,
Which I had drunken too much of.
You threw squid at my eyeball.
And I knew it was love.
