Princess and the Pauper

This is a story about Beth and Bob
She was his princess and he her heartthrob
It was fate these two met on that one day
More than a feeling made them both stay

Beth loved the way that Bob made her smile
Since last felt this way it had been a long while
Bob loved the way Beth spoke all her words
Was caught in her spell each time they were heard

They instantly knew from when they first met
Something so special neither experienced yet
Walked off together both hand in hand
Towards a horizon looking so grand

Reality caught up with them on their tracks
Shining its light and revealing the cracks
Beth started to slow and soon she would sob
There’s no way her parents would approve of Bob

Bob now unsure why she came to a stop
Looking concerned as he saw her tears drop
He explained what they share is such a rare find
And she should be leaving all sorrows behind

Beth said forgive me but I can't go on
Love is so different where I come from
My parents will only approve of a prince
I'm sorry with you they won't be convinced

Bob felt the trace of his own tear
His one and only love will soon disappear
Suddenly his heart in two it was torn
Watching her leave and left feeling scorn

Beth married a prince arranged by her dad
But wasn't true love and made her feel sad
Missing the chance of the love of her life
Doomed to becoming another man's wife

Bob never married and lived all alone
His heart stopped beating and now turned to stone
Life's not the same since now she has gone
He lost any will he had left to go on

Soon Beth realizing just after a year
That Bob's the only one her love will adhere
She keeps on searching her heart made her crave
But this only led her to finding Bob's grave

And it's here she reads the words inscribed
On the tomb stone a message describes
Bob died too young when his life fell apart
While trying to live with just half a heart
