While She Is Sleeping (Sonnet)

by Walter   Sep 11, 2019

I am awake much earlier than her
As my eyes try to adjust in the night
It's not quite sunrise but doesn't deter
Slowly focus on a beautiful sight

The warmth of her skin felt right by my side
I adore how she moves close while we rest
Like it's natural for her to decide
This is the only way she can sleep best

Soon I have to leave it's a working day
I gently pull away from her entwine
Still fast asleep but she wants me to stay
And always hurts me so much to decline

I kiss her lips softly to say goodbye
And not even sleep will stop her reply

I really enjoyed this, it reminds me of how my ex-wife and I use to sleep wrapped so tight it was like we were one. I miss those days. Unfortunately, she decided to wrap with someone else, but your writing was beautiful.
