Overdue Apologies

by Acacia   Feb 10, 2021

She was promised he'd be there forever
But he put her out and pushed her down
Their eternal bond he decided to sever
He broke her heart and let her drown
And when she thought it could only get better
He spent her love and stole her crown

She spent her whole life trying to forget
Wishing he was there to numb the pain
She drowned her life in beer and midnight cigarettes
Hoping somehow she could contain
All the feelings of regret
That always came when she tried to explain

Now the day bleeds into nightfall
And he still thinks of the girl he knew
Wondering if she could recall
The love they once tried to pursue
And he wishes he had the strength to call
And give her an apology, long overdue

But his actions were done
And she finally gave up
As she pulled out the gun
And her body slumped
Her love he may have won
But her feelings were stuck
