How To Say I Love You

by Walter   Jul 7, 2023

You never have to mention love
To know that it is real
Sometimes words are not needed
To express how you might feel

Just as light will catch your eye
That draws you to the source
Love is just as powerful
And remains a silent force

When sounds don't have to be a voice
To know that they are heard
Love learns to communicate
Without a single word

When fragrances will fill the air
Familiar as your skin
To how you make me close my eyes
While I breathe you in

When a roaring fireplace
Is dwindled to your glow
Whenever our skin would touch
Your warmth an instant flow

When the darkness of the night
Is never a disguise
Where we would both learn to see
While not using eyes

When lying close to you to sleep
Our warmth that we are drawn
And this way, that our bodies mold
Until the twilight dawn

When no one else will fill your place
With the same emotions stirred
Our love defined by these feelings
Instead of just a word

Love is an abstract noun for a reason - it cannot be seen or touched, but we certainly know when it is there.
A lovely flow to this poem with smooth rhyming throughout. Good to read your work again, Walter.

Thank you for your comment Ben and yes love, without doubt, is an abstract noun as opposed to a concrete noun. Though as you say, we can definitely sense it when it's there.
