The First Frost

by Paul H   Oct 21, 2023

That day will soon be upon us
When Autumn nights are chill
And a sprinkling of the first frost
Will coat each valley and hill.

Like a fairytale landscape
The sunlight will make you stare
As you notice frosty branches
And a glistening web hanging there.

Overnight a little, busy spider
Had draped her silken threads
Upon an apple tree branch
Whilst we slept in our warm beds.

Below, those blades of grass
Sparkle in a dusting of frost
And you will step back in wonder,
Pleased you didn't miss the first frost.
