Needed

A daffodil needed to display
Its beautiful petals of gold
And feel a child's tender touch
Warm it from the north winds cold.

A sunbeam struggled between
Two thunder clouds in a bout;
It needed to shine on a child's face
Before darkness blotted it out.

A scarlet maple leaf fell
Onto a ground covered with its brothers,
It needed to be admired by a child,
As no expression was heard by others.

A snowflake needed a smiling child
To feel valued, of much worth
Before falling onto a blade of grass
Adding purity to the earth.

That young child became a man
Who, I'm sure he does still recall
How he and nature needed each other
By their actions, large, and small.

A beautiful poem, well rhymed throughout. Nature and mankind are one and the same, and the sooner the latter realises that, the healthier the world will be.
