The Second Time Around

by Paul H   Oct 22, 2023

I walked past you yesterday,
Oblivious to your face,
My head was high up in the clouds
Your memory left no trace,
So self-absorbed i didn't see
The sadness in your eyes,
And my ears were strangely deaf
To your disheartened sighs.

I walked right up to you today
And reached out a welcoming hand-
Your paw was lifted, expectantly
And your tail wagged in demand.
Oh, how pleased you was to see
Me bothered to have found
Time to see the need in your eyes,
The second time around.
