THE RANCHER AND THE COWBOY

THE RANCHER AND THE COWBOY

She was a pretty young rancher, trying to make it out on her own,
he was a lonely cowboy, no place to call his home,
he stopped in for a drink of cool water and maybe a bite of some food,
he wanted to work for his vittles, oh yes they smelled so good,
this cowboy was a good worker and soon he was working full time,
she knew she had hired a cowboy, one that was trustworthy and kind,
one that would surely stand by her, both in good times and in bad,
the type always looked for but, not many could ever be had,
they started out talking together, and soon there was a laugh or two,
what had once been a grey sky above them had suddenly turned so blue,
the cowboy knew that he loved her, loved her with a heart bold and true,
she was all that he wanted, he hoped she loved him too,
they went into town one evening, just for a night on the town,
they danced all through the nighttime and got home just about dawn,
tired and happy they both were, but work still had to be done,
so they pitched in together and worked as if they were one,
soon they were twosome, always seen side by side,
even when rounding up cattle, and putting a brand on their hide,
fall cattle were soon shipped to market, expenses had to be met,
when the paying was all over, came a scene she will never forget,
he knelt on his knees just before her and asked her to be his sweet bride,
it was something she often prayed for, she wanted to be by his side,
to go with him through life forever, to have him to keep and to hold,
they were both solid people, one was silver, one gold,
they still live in the mountains, where the ranch has prospered and grown,
this rancher and the cowboy, now have kids of their own.
