Stars

Stars.
They look upon me from the best seats in this universal stage.
And you lay, so closely to I,
staring deeply in my eyes, but,
you feel a million miles away.
Where the stars are
shining,
that's where you are.
I can see it in your eyes.
And as you gaze into mine, I wonder,
where I am.
Who am I, I wonder,
in this colossal galaxy,
am I more than this part I play?
You kiss me. Mundane.
I've seen this movie
in black and white
twice before, as a child.
I'm older now,
wiser,
more vulnerable.
I can't press pause
and rewind, anymore.
But I, I was never so naïve,
to believe in happy endings.
A shooting star eventually burns out
and its glitter turns to dust.
I, whoever I may be,
am eternal.
Please don't look into my eyes like that.
Don't kiss me.
Please.
