The Selection of God’s Newest Angel (A Tribute To Aunt Donna)

by Tammy   Aug 18, 2004

One day, God looked down from His Kingdom of Heaven, and thought to Himself,
“Who shall I call home?”
“Whose time is it to return to me?”
“Whose Mother loves all of her children fairly and equally?”
“Whose Mother will take a phone call- just to listen -at anytime, and say, ‘No, I wasn’t sleeping.’ Even though she answered the phone sleepily?”
“Which Mother cheers the loudest at basketball games and always knows more than the referee?”
“Whose Mother laughs at jokes that are not even funny?”
“Whose Mother brags the most about her children?”
“Whose Mother knits magical blankets that are always the perfect size, always match your decor, keep you snuggly warm in the winter, but just the right temperature for a summer nap?”
“Whose Mother washed and hung out bedsheets so that your bedtime smelled like summer?”
“Whose Mother had a nose that wiggles when she slices pizza?”
“Whose Mother smelled like peppermints and wanted to be as much of a friend as she was a Mother?”
“Whose Mother was the most sacrificing, and wanted nothing less than the best for her children?”
“Who always, always made the best lemonade, even when life dealt her lemons?”
“Whose Mother was more than willing to brave the pouring rain just to get popcorn ball and the really big french fries that can only be found at the Apple Butter festival in Grand Rapids; if it meant getting to spend time with her children?”
“Whose Mother always carried herself with dignity, nails done, hair neat, no need for make-up, always beautiful and strong, even when things seemed at their worst?”
“Whose Mother abhorred the thought of turning 50, and will now and forever be 49?”
“Whose Mother sang along to the radio in the car, whether it annoyed her children or not? Especially if it was a re-make of a song from her teen years?”
“And whose Grandma had smiles for her Grandchildren that always made everything better?”
“Whose Grandma was always there to welcome her Grandchildren into the world?”
“Whose Grandma had hugs so warm, you never needed a blanket when you sat on her lap?”
“And which Woman was proud and string, never-wavering?”
“Which Woman was happy and loved life, and tried to experience all that it had to offer?”
“Which Woman shared her love with all living things; plants, animals, and people from all walks of life?”
God paused in His thoughts, as He knew the answers to His questions....just as we do. God’s thoughts were flooded with all of these attributes and more of Donna; our Mother, our Grandma, our Daughter, our Sister, our Love, and our friend.
The Heavens rejoice that God has chosen to bring home their beautiful Angel.
How can we live with-out her?
We can. Because of what she has taught us, because of what she has shown us, she will live on through us.
