What Happened To My Hero?

by Angela   Oct 3, 2004

National Honor Society
Top of the class,
Graduation smile
“Way to go, Cass!”

Basketball Star
Varsity team,
I’d cheer with my squad
And for you we’d scream.

I looked at your awards
Nicely hung on the wall,
All of those accomplishments
Of course you’d never fall.

Those were the days
When we really knew each other,
But now I don’t think I know you
You left this behind for another.

You don’t smile anymore
Just sit around all day,
In your lonely apartment
With nothing to say.

Pregnant and single
None of this was in the plan before,
You isolate yourself from the family
And no longer get the high score.

How could this happen?
I wanted to be just like you,
But I can’t do that anymore
And neither can you.

So I’ll finish that path you started
The one you couldn’t mend,
I’ll make something of myself
Right when high school ends.

I wish you could see
The big hole you made and fell in,
You’re life will never be the same
Because of that one sin.

But I’ll show you something great
With words spoken loud,
You’ll envy what you could’ve had
Because everyone will be so proud.

I still love you
But how did you get in this mess?
You had everything that people strive for
Why didn’t you just stick with the best?

You were what I wanted to be
But I don’t want to end up falling to zero,
I hope you turn your life around soon
Because you used to be my hero.
