Today I Bought You Flowers

by john   Oct 13, 2004

Today I bought you flowers
from the lady across the street
She told me you were lucky
to have someone who's so sweet

I blushed and thanked her kindly
as I paid for the bouquet
I told her you were special
in every inch and in every way

As I walked along the sidewalk,
people looked at me and smiled
Some yelled, "Go get 'em, tiger!"
while others were just beguiled

This is how I show my love ---
through flowers, that's what I do
It may seem too old-fashioned
I don't care 'cause I love you

Flowers may not last forever,
it may not even last a day
Yet the magic it brings to people
will always be with them to stay

And here I am at your doorstep
Never thought I'd get here that fast
Never thought I'd be this nervous
The moment's here at last

Anxious thoughts came to mind
as I rang your doorbell twice
"Should I say a big speech?"
"Or should I just be concise?"

Then as you answered the door
I knew exactly what to do
I took a deep breath and said,
"THESE FLOWERS ARE FOR YOU."
