To those less fortunate...

by Cimara   Dec 22, 2004

‘Tis the season to be jolly,
so the carol sings.
‘Tis an exchange of presents,
from flowers to golden rings.

Little children come to mind,
Anticipating the arrival of Santa.
Family members reunite,
And enjoy some friendly banter.

Food is bought weeks before,
For the feast that is Chrissy Dinner.
Food fit for a king to eat,
Grandma’s turkey is always a winner.

It’s a time of laughter and enjoyment,
And smiles are seen all round.
It’s a time of pure happiness,
And it’s extremely rare to see a frown.

Yet if you look deep beyond all that,
If you look beyond the Christmas cheer.
I’m sure that you will realize,
The are millions unhappy each year.

If you really do think about it,
I’m confident that you will see.
That there are so many people less fortunate,
Than you and I happen to be.

There are the people in third world countries,
Who are starving and highly malnourished.
They’ve sadly had no education,
No chance to let their minds flourish.

They are lucky if they have a house,
The bare necessities they cannot afford.
Nothing in their lives is concrete,
Their death is all that can be assured.

Christmas is just another day to them,
Another day they have to try and survive.
Trying to preserve their remaining family members,
Fighting to keep themselves alive.

Or perhaps you could consider,
Those who don’t have a roof over their heads.
Those forced to sleep in the gutter,
Rather than sleep in comfortable beds.

To receive a gift from another,
Would be a luxury of the greatest kind.
The thought of ANY home cooked meal,
Would be constantly on their minds.

And while it’s not your fault,
That these people have to live this way.
Surely you could think of them,
On such a special and joyous day.

Surely you could take the time,
To thank the lord above.
Thank him for the things we take for granted,
And thank him for our family’s love.

So when you raise your glasses,
High up into the air,
Consider those who have been dealt,
A hand that’s not so fair.

By all means enjoy you Christmas,
I hope it’s the best one yet!
But remember all these people,
I BEG you not to forget!!
