I’m Sitting Next To Martin Luther King

by Ashley   Jan 22, 2005

I see you in my dreams
You are my dream
My dream to be equal
My dream to live again
My dream to be respected
My dream not to be judged
My life is nothing but a dream
A dream I can awake to because of Martin Luther King
I wish we all could have x ray vision
So we could see what’s within
Within me is my heart
My soul
My dreams
Me
The part that counts
The part you should love
The part I wish you could see
The real me
The real me is smart
The real me is not normal but not better than every one else just because of what I do
I’m better because I’m not like you
I’m better because I’m an individual
I’m an individual because I have my own dreams
The dream I dreamt last night was that no one is judged anymore
No one is hated because of their color of skin
That everyone is looked at by what’s within
Within the soul is what really counts
Which is where everything is kept
The feelings you feel
The people you love
The people you’ve lost
The people you wish to have to yourself
Me
Your soul is where your heart is
Your heart holds the key to everything
To living your life
To live your life you must dream
To dream you must have hopes and goals
To have hopes and goals you must have people to share them with
Friends and family to help you threw
To help you awake from your dream
Once you awake your dream will stay a dream till its true
To be true it must be true to you
To be true to you
It must be yours
To be yours it must be a goal
A goal you want to achieve
To achieve your goal you must believe
In Martin Luther King
For he made it possible to not only dream
But to awake to your dream achieved
Right now I’m sleeping and always will be
Until I have my child
For my dream is to have a little girl
Who I know will be perfect
Because she’ll be mine and my husband’s
Who will be perfect because he will help me answer my dreams
He will be in them
I see him now
He is in my dreams
I will soon awake to see his face
The face I will learn to love
The face of my daughters
If my husband dies yes I’ll cry
But I’ll have my dream
Which will never die
Because she’s my little girl
And she will have children who will look like her
And she will look like him
My dream is to have a family
My family might be of all colors
And is possible because of a dream
A dream that awake a good man
A man that let us live our lives free
His name is Martin Luther King
Sadly when he awoke he soon fell asleep for good
I wish that he was alive
To show how much his dream made us dream
We dream because we can
We awake to our dreams because he was a great man
His dream was for his kids to live with other kids not like them
Kids that people back then thought where better
Only because they didn’t have x ray vision
And now we do
It’s not glasses
It’s our way of looking at life
Looking at things
Looking at people
Looking at people of all different colors
Even though they’re not like us
They’re not worse
They’re not better
They’re the same
For now we are almost equal
But there is still one more dream
For everyone to join hands and sing
We must sing about our dreams
Our hopes
Our goals
The things we have
Because one person’s dream was answered
That of Martin Luther King
The dream that we all have x ray vision and that no one can see colors
For colors separate us from our dreams
To reality
But if we dream
When we awake we can change
Change not only the fact that our dream came true
But that I can sit next to everyone
Even you
I can sit next to Martin Luther King
Because he was in my dream
