Pardon my Heart

by dandy   Mar 1, 2005

I've liked too many
who've torn apart;
the loving, aching flesh of my heart.

I've given up,
decided not to search.
For fear of once again,
being hurt.

Been played like a game,
too many times before.
Some call love happy,
I call it a chore.

I like you a lot,
but I'm scared to tell.
Right now I am safe
in the loneliness in which I dwell.

So pardon my heart
if it seems a bit cold.
It's crumpled right now,
give it time to unfold.

Please wait for me,
as long as it takes;
For I pray you won't be
another mistake.
