Goodbye

by Kristy Green   Apr 11, 2005

What was it that went through your head
that night?
what were you thinking
when you told me goodbye for the last time?
all the while
I never knew
that would be the last time
I'd hear your voice
that the next day wouldn't be like the one before
like the one where I could see your face
and now, no more
the night I told you goodnight- I'll see you tomorrow

the last words that dripped
are still in my mind
in a repeating echo
as you say your last words- goodbye
goodbye
goodbye
of all the things you
could of said
you leave me dead
with all that fell out before your silence
goodbye

that night I had no idea
those would be your last words to me
but you did
and you know me
being me
I smile and say sweet dreams, baby
goodnight- goodbye

and you're gone
as easy as your words spoken
words that shattered my soul and left me broken
my heart
my simple bones that held me up
just cracked
in one simple word
goodbye

and the cold concrete
is my only comfort, now
where I lay
as tears fall to the floor below me
the cold touches my cheek
and I cry
as I speak your last words-
it's goodbye you speak
and it's all I heard

It's all over now
you left me in a word
you pushed me down as far as I could go- in a word
how a person could fall and break open
the last word in a call
the last of you in one scornful word

you took me away in goodbye
sweet misery, my love
goodbye for always
now, everything stays in goodbye
