While I Sleep Tonight

by Inner Critic   Apr 19, 2005

While I sleep tonight,
Wrapped in your sweet embrace
My thoughts escape into the night,
And set their own sure pace.
Along Midnight’s path they roll and turn,
Gliding the skies in sleep’s dark light
But in desire’s release for you I yearn,
While I dream tonight.

Yet still I stir in slumber’s keep,
Holding memories to my chest
Weeping for dreams that took to flight,
And those that failed the test.
Dreaming of faltered starts,
Two partnered souls in love’s sweet plight
Yearning grown in dormant hearts,
Is the rose that blooms at night.

Now lying warm from your caress,
Satisfied with joy replete
I turn to you and love confess,
But you are deep in sleep.

If dark grace is near at hand,
Then share the long kiss goodnight
And pipe our souls to that far land,

While we sleep tonight.
