Our First Valentines Day

Our First Valentines Day

(I still remember how we spent our first Valentines Day,
The butterflies inside my stomach would not go away.
I had to work up all my nerve to walk right up to you.
But when I did, I didn't think of what else I would do.)

I looked at you,
You looked at me,
And all we did was smile.
We both just stood there in the silence and did that for a while,
I was right about to tell you, but you were the first to say,
"I like you, would you like to be my Valentine today?"
I thought there for a moment, not sure of what I heard,
I wanted then to shout out "yes", but could not say a word.
Time went on and nothing! My pulse began to rise,
If only I could answer and not get lost inside your eyes,
"Oh no!", I thought, "I blew it, there went my only chance,"
"She'll never want to go out with me to the high school dance."
I stuttered for a second and then stared down at the ground,
That was all that came out and not another sound,
What happened next told me that everything would turn out right,
You held my hand, picked up my chin so you were in my sight,
You smiled, kissed me on the cheek,
and said, "I'll take that as a yes?"
I smiled, nodded, and then said, "Th..th..that's a pretty dress."
From that point on things were perfect, we talked, joked, whispered, and
Everywhere we went, we did it hand in hand.
The time's flown by and we are still together, is it true?
Now I can't imagine living my life without you.
My love for you remains the same, if not stronger that's a fact,
Because every Valentines Day the butterflies come back.
And on that morning, every year, we lie there for a while,
I look at you,
You look at me,
And all we do is smile.
