Three small words

I use to throw these words around,
Never really sure what they meant,
I said them casually,
Till there was you,
When you came along I decided no,
This time I'll wait till I'm sure,
I'd liked you for so long,
For 8 months it was you I adored,
I wanted it to mean something when I said it,
To make you feel that I meant it,
You said it to me many times,
But I told you I couldn't reciprocate,
You were patient, although you seemed slightly hurt,
But I knew I couldn't say it,
Not until I knew its worth,
I waited and I waited for about a month,
Then one day we were alone,
You were hugging me and I felt so great,
I knew how I felt in every way and
knew you were the one,
I decided I wanted to tell you,
But I wasn't sure when was right,
Then you looked at me and told me,
And I blurted it out fast in fright,
I was scared of what that would mean,
Would it put you off me and ruin the fun,
But I know now after another 8 months,
The fun has just begun!
