Why I can't adore you

This is for my good friend Lewis, in reply to his poem.

Your voice so mesmerising
Your eyes so deep and true
Your dark hair, so gorgeous
Why can’t I be with you?

I know it would be great
But I also know this
That what you say is so right
So I guess we’ll have to skip

The loving, the dates, the going out
I suppose I am a bit disappointed
But deep down, I know that
We could mess up if it ever started

Your friendship means the world to me
If we broke up I would cry so hard
You’re my first true friend, my first true love
So this thing can’t ever start

Our friendship is so precious
It could last for evermore
To keep this thing going
You're the boy I can't adore
