Imperfection

Once upon a time,
In a far away land,
A young girl dreamed,
Of the perfect man,

Bright eyes filled with love,
A smile that made her melt,
Lips so soft and kissable,
Speaking words so heart felt,

A body warm as fire,
Heart as big as the world,
Hands so gentle and giving,
Touching her heart and soul,

A man she could rely on,
In the good times and the bad,
Someone she could turn to,
To brighten her nights so sad,

Then one day he appeared,
He stole her heart and soul,
She was his forever more,
She'd follow him wherever he'd go,

Suddenly she realised,
The man she saw wasn't real,
Her view of him had a rose tint,
Muddled by what she could feel,

He wasn't the man she dreamed of,
He didn't wash away her pain,
Yet somehow he had a magic about him,
As though he was playing a game,

She was under his spell,
And continues to be this very day,
She's fought his power so many times,
But it always remained the same,

When suddenly there was a change,
He listened to her words,
He held her in his strong arms,
And told her she was his girl,

He calmed her when she needed calming,
He kissed away her tears,
She still hurts to this day,
And he is what she fears,

Yet despite the pain,
Despite the tears cried each night,
She continues to love him,
Trying to suppress her fright,

This WAS the man of her dreams,
Of that she was sure,
He loved her more than any man could,
She could tell his love was pure,

Each and everytime she doubted his love,
She'd tell him to his face,
And he'd bow his head and plead with her,
Holding her tightly in his embrace,

Even though their love's not perfect,
Even though she's still afraid,
She wouldn't trade him for the entire world,
She made a promise, and stayed,

This young girl still remains by his side,
Timid yet madly in love,
She will show the man of her dreams,
It's HIM she's always dreaming of.
