A hero's story

by Anthony burke   Aug 5, 2005

Once upon a time in a land much like ours,
There was a young boy who looked to the stars,
His heart was full joy and love,
he looked to the sky so high above,
"This is the girl" he said,
With all the wonders of marriage in his head,
He asked her to marry him and she replied "yes",
What happens next you'd never guess.

On a day so bright and sunny,
while our hero reads the funnies,
and thinks about his love's sweet smell,
he gets a call and knows not all is well,
he asks his bride to be whats wrong,
her reply took so very long,
she started crying and said "we have to break up tonight",
Then continued with "Please let me go, I don't want to fight"
She hung up the phone and he let out a sigh,
and for the first time ever our hero wanted to die,

He stayed in bed for ten nights in a row,
Saying only that he never wanted to see that h*e,
he never ate and had nothing to drink,
not even the water from he's own sink,
The doctors came and said "he's going to die"
He looked up at them and knew that look in their eye,
His friend came and beat him up just a little,
and reminded him how small he was getting in the middle,

So he started to eat and get back on his feet,
he even talked to a girl on-line who was very sweet,
but on the inside our hero was sad,
and this pain inside made him miss his dad,
he didn't leave the house or care what he looked like,
even though it was summer and the time was right to go outside and ride his bike,
he didn't care that other kids were having fun,
he even came to hate the sun,

He was so sad and depressed all the time,
that his life wasn't worth a dime,
Then an angel came down from heaven to show him the light,
and give him a reason to fight,
she made him laugh and have fun again,
he even forgot about his sins,
He still hasn't met her to this day,
but Kristin is amazing in every way,
I want to end this story as the old books do,
that their love was everlasting and true,
but things will change for he is still young,
but for now at least, he finally put away his gun.

I wanted to try something new with my poems so tell me if you like it, This is for you my angel, Kristin you saved my life.

Holy potatoes, Mr Burke. That is one of the best poems I've ever read. It is so well polished I can see my reflection. Absolutely brilliant. I think I have a new favourite for my list. Do the world a favour and keep writing, man.
