I Remember

I REMEMBER
By Elizabeth Murray

I remember when you and me would talk almost every day.
I loved to receive text messages from you.
Why did you change?
I remember when you walked me to the bus stop after school.
Ha ha, I would purposely miss the first bus to spend more time with you.
I remember when you walked me to every class.
I remember you were always there after class so we’d walk to our lockers together.
I remember when I lost your phone,
I’ve never seen you so mad.
I remember when you forgave me four months later,
I was so happy for a week.
I remember when you said you couldn’t speak to me because of your girlfriend.
I remember being so mad and hurt.
I remember you apologizing.
I just remember smiling.
I remember seeing you standing at my locker with a letter for me.
I was so nervous and excited, just wondering what you wrote.
I remember taking a picture with you before you left school,
I still have it, we stood more than two feet apart from each other before the picture was taken, but in the end we took the picture together.
I remember you walking to my house to just spend time.
I remember you walking to my house to pick up some pictures I had taken.
I remember when we went to the movies together that one summer.
How embarrassing, my mother was standing outside waiting for me to come home.
I remember you walking me home from a party because I was too drunk, besides you wouldn‘t let me go alone.
I thank you.
I remember the first kiss we shared,
It was everything I expected and more.
I remember the night visits you’d make.
I remember when you first saw me in a skirt,
Ha ha, that was funny...
I remember when your calls came in less frequent.
I remember when your visits became less and less.
I remember when I started missing you.
But I can’t remember when I stopped caring about you.
I never have, don’t think I ever will.

I miss you so much, but I care about you even more.
