Is honesty always the best policy?
Sure the truth may be best
But it comes at a price
And I’m not sure that it’s worth it

You said it hurt when I ended it.
But the truth would hurt even more
You wanted to know why, I couldn’t say.
If only you knew the real reason for our break up…

If only you knew about the times I spent
Held by arms, and kissed by lips
That didn’t belong to you.
You would understand.

The lies I hid with clouded eyes,
The truth I masked with a smile,
How could I do this to you?
You were nothing but perfect to me.

I regret it, but now I must live with a lie
For although you are not my boyfriend
You are my best friend, and I don’t want to lose you
So forgive me for not telling the truth…
But honesty is not always the best policy.
