Amber Heart

by Inner Critic   Aug 15, 2005

(In the forgotten amber,
Lying still in golden peace
Love waits, patiently, for release)

Amber heart, resin hard
All those partners you discard
Once pure feelings, shriveled black
The patient lover will coax them back.

Diamond eyes, facet gleam
In your passing suitors dream
So much pressure made you stone
A kindred soul will draw you home.

Golden skin, metal smooth
Rejecting all who try to soothe
Too much grasping made you bleed
A gentle touch is all you need.

Silver tongue, vocal shears
Reducing all to bitter tears
A Siren mute for far too long
A calming voice will draw your song.

All these things that you’ve become
Cruelty that has left you numb
Betrayal that has turned you cold
Your lotus soul can still unfold.

A coaxing gaze, a safer path
A proffered hand, a gentle laugh
A trusted guide to share the pain
Your amber heart will beat again.
