LOVE’S DEFINITION

Dazed and confused, I shed light on the theme,
The perplexity of how this became,
In what seemed just a moment, this joyous dream,
Turned into a matter of shame.

There was once a time that I had much respect,
For myself and all of my heart,
I used to set boundaries, on which I’d connect,
But as we all see the limits have part.

I’ve taken the plunge, the plummet to danger,
Much worse than anything prior,
The new ‘love’ of mine is yet another stranger,
But this time it’s a forbidden desire.

I look back down the path but I know it is too late,
I’ve fallen deep into feeling.
Incurable affection has entwined with my fate,
And I can’t see myself healing.

The picture of love so plain and so clear,
I look for a way to be released,
But with no exits to take, I fall back into fear,
As I realise all hope has now ceased.

Living with love that lead nowhere,
And a heart with hope-malnutrition,
And knowing that nothing will make this fair,
Makes me wonder if pain is love’s definition…
