Aftermath

by katie!   Aug 30, 2005

A funeral pire burns mournfully above the town
Ashes of the fallen are falling softly to the ground
Grey snow littering the streets, dulling the lights
A burning mass of terror flooding the night

Peoples featured melt into their skeletal memories
Families crucified as the soldiers plunder the treasuries
Dragons breathe their molten shadows upon the pained
Charring the grass which was already bloodstained

A simple message flows throughout the walls
Damaging the peasants, decorating the halls
Therein lies the unresting souls of many fathers sins
Ethereal figures wrapped among the mourning hymns

Black dragon rears its head, sparking fear throughout
Insomniacs dance during the mighty shout
A roar sending spears deep inside hearts of men
The mighty beast bows its head whilst screaming again

Sabbath rest abolished during the reign of fear
Foxgloves punch their way through the layer of tears
Poisonous flowers deceptive with beauty, colour
Marring the battlefields, making the honour

The fallen are greeted by burnt bodies, destruction
Under the hammer of flowing corruption
An angel sits serenely in a silver pool which she cries
The city does burn and with that she then dies

I absolutly love this poem, there were so many lines that stuck out to me that i can't even begin listing them off. it's so sad and makes me feel like i am there from the discription. it's amazing from what i saw in the poem and read. it's just beautiful. i love the last two lines about the angel, i really love angels but the poem won me over long before i read those two lines. the first four lines were enough to win me over with this one.

"Ashes of the fallen are falling softly to the ground
Grey snow littering the streets, dulling the lights " those were the lines that captured me into it!

"Charring the grass which was already bloodstained" already bloodstained... so powerful and makes the reader realize that battle has been there and continues it's so sad!

"Foxgloves punch their way through the layer of tears
Poisonous flowers deceptive with beauty, colour
Marring the battlefields, making the honour " it's just... WOW.

and then of course the angel lines too! great job.
