The Passing of Time

by Sophie   Sep 17, 2005

The passing of time has healed my heart,
But memories of you feel cold and dark,
I thought for a moment you wouldn't return,
But that feeling of hope persists to burn.

I can't escape the passion you gave,
I can't forget how you had to be brave,
I can only regret the pain I caused,
I can only pray for the person I've lost.

I make myself believe the love is still there,
When in reality you will never again care,
The sorrow I feel is as heavy as rain,
I see time has failed to ease such a pain.

I send myself to sleep with thoughts of you,
Thoughts of your return, sure as the sky is blue,
In my dreams you hold me tight,
Telling me how you'll keep me warm at night.

Our future was lost when our past became pain,
I secretly vowed never to hurt you again,
You left me cold, alone and scared,
And I learnt to stop hoping that you would be there.
