To Helen

by will carwell   Sep 24, 2005

Give me a smile from your lips so tender
An expression of your heart so dear
A smile that will never be lost
The inspiration of nights so drear.

But never give me a smile that isn't true
That will cause the downfall of my honor
And once it is weighed down low
I could not get it up anymore.

Had I been a son of billionaire
I would tour all corners of the world,
And search the most precious jewel.
The gem fitting only to my queen.

But I am only a son of a needy man
With only my loving hearths to offer
So, let not this only treasure I possess
Be trampled upon in shame and sadness.

Had God the Father given me the power
I would dare the star-studded heaven
And stars would flock as many as I could
And lay them down before you my beloved.

But God did not give me such power
He created me frail, mortal and helpless
So the things that I profess will all remain
And my love for you will be in vain.

Though all the earthly wealth I do not own.
Yet, my love for you is endless and strong.
So, why deny your love so dear?
When I love you my dearest Helen.
