A Story About A Girl

by Chanel Alford   Oct 13, 2005

A friend
ever so wise
helps her through the times
of hurt, pain and lies
his embrace is iron clad
wherein she feel so safe and warm
protected from the world
shielded from the storm
unbeknown to him
what that she can feel
for him there is only pure love
her knight and protector that is so real
she sits and she listens
to the things he has to tell
on keeping her head up and being to be
she listens intently and well
hoping that he will see the beauty
that is before his very eyes
someone that would give the world to be just with him
but all she has is her heart, moon and skies
so everyday she returns
saddened more and more by his ignorance of her obvious love
but faithfully she sits
a beautiful dove
she is there for him when he professes his love for another
happy that there is someone to make his day brighter
not unhappy of the fact that the someone is not her
that he has found his life love, no more from loneliness will he suffer
ever faithful
she sits and waits
he doesn't show for her life lesson
more concerned with looking just right and important dates
faithful still
she wonders where her life love is
there is a void, an abyss
an apparent emptiness
for the first time
not through the countless stories he told of lost love, heartache and break
not through the the gut wrenching stories of happiness given by him to others
she shed tears, for her and his sake
she goes to the spot for months
dying a little more inside
all her hope was gone, she's jaded
in no one can she confide
she sits in the spot
when a familiar voice falls upon her ears
he's there and something has changed
his smile has faded and in its place are tears
he sits
for a very long while
and together they say nothing
and he touches her shoulder gently with his head; she cracks a small smile
he begins to tell her the story
of how his love was untrue
of the pain that she caused him
he tells her "she's nothing compared to you"
so again they sit and she hugs him lightly
hoping that her embrace will bring him back
glad that he's at least there
although broken, not exactly intact
he tells her that he and his love are just friends
so he obviously doesn't love her
she understands since you can never be "just friends" with someone you love
so she tells him that she will concur
she tells that she's been keeping a diary since they haven't been together
he tells that so has he since he was able
and commences to read an entry that says
"Today I settled for less. I created a substitute for her, the unattainable."
So together they sit
in a bright silence
then three words fall upon two sets of ears
I love you they both say, making a beautiful cadence
