Mirage

by Daniel Alexander   Nov 4, 2005

Eyes that reflect no hope
As vultures circle overhead
This desert's a sacred place
Barren land; hot in day
Cold and lonely at night
Pray this isn't the end
There has to be something left
Minutes turn to miles
And miles turn to days
An apparition of hope
Waters the dying lips
Throat chokes on sand
Coughs up the bliss
Mirage of a perfect life
All burned away
Collapse in pain
And save it for another day
No more fight left
Cold steel to the head
Mirage of hope explodes
And lies down dead
