He'll keep going...

by Matt   Nov 11, 2005

He's been traveling for some time now
Walking down this path and that
Faded jeans and a worn black sweatshirt
His hands are shaking from the cold
And he can walk through his cloudy breaths
The tears stained lines down his face
While his lips are bleeding and dry
The blood coursing through his veins
Has changed to feel like lead shots
He's weary, but keeps stumbling on
Everyone always told him to keep trying
That things would work out one day
But he got sick of all the empty promises
And the broken dreams he had before
He lived in moments of happiness
Followed by days of pain and anguish
Every time he thought he found the right one
She knocked him to the ground
Snapped his hope, ground her heel into his heart
So he lay there, clenching fists and fiery eyes
Slowly standing up again to stagger ahead
Wounds heal, scars fade, and life goes on
The path ahead is dark, but that won't change
While the languished angel floats behind
Always wondering when he'll give up
The heart can only be fixed a few times
And the body can't last an eternity
But he's been through two already
He's had the ancient wars etched in his heart
And the thought of hope torn from his flesh
There's no telling what keeps him alive
But the people have always said...
"God's favorites have a hard time."
